What is the difference between data enrichment and data cleansing?

Data enrichment adds new information to existing records, filling in missing fields like email addresses, phone numbers, and firmographic attributes from external data sources. Data cleansing removes or corrects inaccurate, incomplete, or duplicate records already in your CRM. In practice, both are part of the same CRM hygiene workflow: you clean first (remove dead records, fix typos, deduplicate contacts) then enrich (add missing attributes). Most enrichment tools include some basic validation as part of their enrichment process, but dedicated data cleansing is a separate step that should happen before you run enrichment at scale.
