Sales quota calculator
Enter your annual revenue target and rep count to split the quota per rep and per month. The numbers stay in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Each rep needs to book about $41,667 a month.
What is a sales quota
A sales quota is the amount of revenue a rep is expected to close in a set period, usually a year. Team quota is the total revenue target for the whole sales team, and rep quota is that number split across the people carrying it.
Quota gives reps a clear number to aim for and gives managers a way to track whether the team is on pace. Without a shared quota, it is hard to tell if the team is ahead or behind until the quarter is already over.
How to calculate sales quota
The formula is annual revenue target divided by the number of quota carrying reps. If the team target is 3,000,000 dollars and there are 6 reps, each rep carries a quota of 500,000 dollars for the year.
Break the annual number down further by dividing by 12 to get a monthly quota per rep. That smaller number is easier to track week to week and makes it obvious early if a rep is falling behind pace.
How to hit your sales quota
Split the annual number into monthly or even weekly targets so reps can course correct early instead of scrambling at quarter end. Review quota attainment by rep on a regular cadence, not just at the end of the period.
The hard part is trusting the pipeline numbers behind the quota. If your CRM does not match how your team actually sells, forecasts drift and quota tracking becomes guesswork. A CRM built around your real workflow keeps that number trustworthy.
What is a typical quota to OTE multiple
Quota is usually set as a multiple of on target earnings (OTE). Healthy plans size quota so a fully ramped rep can realistically clear it most periods, not just in a best case quarter.
| Role | Typical quota to OTE multiple |
|---|---|
| SDR or BDR (sourcing quota) | 3x to 5x OTE |
| Account executive | 4x to 6x OTE |
| Enterprise or strategic AE | 5x to 8x OTE |
| Team average, blended | 4x to 6x OTE |
These are general ranges to orient you, not a guarantee. Your right multiple depends on deal size, sales cycle, and how much of the pipeline reps have to build themselves.
How to set a realistic sales quota
Size quota to rep capacity
Estimate how many qualified deals a rep can realistically work in a year, then multiply by average deal size and expected win rate. Quota that ignores capacity sets reps up to miss no matter how hard they work.
Anchor to your actual win rate
Use the team's real close rate, not an aspirational one, when converting pipeline into a quota number. If deals convert at 20 percent, quota needs enough qualified pipeline behind it to make the math work.
Build in ramp time for new reps
Give new hires a reduced quota that steps up over their first two to four months instead of holding them to full quota on day one.
Set pipeline coverage above the quota
Most teams aim for three to four times the quota in open pipeline at any point, since not every deal closes. Coverage below that is an early warning sign.
Revisit quota every period
Territory changes, new hires, and shifting deal sizes all move the math. Review quota at least once a quarter instead of setting it once a year and leaving it.
Track attainment against trustworthy data
Quota tracking only works if pipeline and close data reflect how the team actually sells. A CRM built around your real workflow keeps attainment numbers something reps and managers both trust.
